Document Converter (HWP · PDF · Word)

Convert HWP, HWPX, HML, PDF, XLSX and DOCX to Markdown in your browser, then save as Word, Excel, Hangul (.hwpx) or text. No upload.

Runs in your browser

HWP 3.x/5.x, HWPX, HML, PDF, XLSX, XLS, DOCX and MD · up to 200 MB · no upload · password-protected files and scanned PDFs cannot be read.

Drop a file here or click to browse
Files never leave your device.

Conversion is not perfect: fonts, colours, text inside shapes and headers/footers do not carry over, and scanned PDFs whose text is an image cannot be read. Open the saved file and check it.

What this converter does

It reads the structure of a document — headings, lists, tables, images — from HWP 3.x/5.x, HWPX, HML, PDF, XLSX, XLS and DOCX files and turns it into Markdown. You can then save that Markdown back as a Hangul document (.hwpx), a Word document (.docx), an Excel workbook (.xlsx) or plain text.

Everything runs inside your browser: the parsing engine is loaded as a Web Worker on this page and your file is never uploaded to a server. That makes it suitable for contracts, registry papers and other documents you would not send to a random website.

Convert HWP to Word — and back

HWP and HWPX are used almost exclusively in Korea, so opening them abroad or in Microsoft Word is a common problem. Drop the HWP file here, check the Markdown result, choose Word (.docx) and download — headings, lists and tables (including merged cells) arrive as real Word structure you can keep editing.

The reverse also works: drop a Word, PDF or Markdown file and save it as Hangul (.hwpx) to open it in the Hangul word processor.

Pull tables into Excel

Choosing Excel (.xlsx) saves each table in the document as its own sheet, named after the heading above it. Numbers and dates become real, calculable values — "1,234" turns into the number 1234 and "2024-01-15" into a proper date cell.

Values that Excel would silently damage are protected: numbers with a leading zero (phone numbers, codes) and numbers longer than 15 digits stay as text. Text outside tables is not included, and the tool tells you how much was left out.

Why Markdown in the middle

Markdown is a plain-text format that keeps structure with simple marks (#, -, |). It opens on any computer, pastes cleanly into editors and AI chats, and converts well into other formats — which is exactly why this tool uses it as the common middle step. You can also drop a .md file directly and just use the save formats.

What does not carry over

The conversion moves structure and content, not appearance. Fonts, colours, precise table styling, text inside shapes, and headers or footers are not preserved, and a scanned PDF whose text is an image cannot be read. Always open the saved file and check it before using it.

How to use

  1. Drop a document on the box, or click it to choose a file (HWP, HWPX, HML, PDF, XLSX, XLS, DOCX, MD — up to 200 MB).
  2. Read the Markdown result and any warnings — they tell you what could not be read.
  3. Pick a save format: Markdown, Hangul (.hwpx), Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx, tables only) or plain text.
  4. Download and open the file to check the content before you use it.

FAQ

Can it open password-protected or DRM documents?

No. Encrypted HWP/PDF files need the original program to remove the protection first; the browser engine reports them clearly instead of guessing.

Why does my scanned PDF come out empty?

A scanned PDF stores its text as a picture. This tool reads the text layer only — OCR is not available in the browser engine — so image-only pages produce no text.

Will the converted file look identical to the original?

The structure (headings, lists, tables, images) is preserved; the appearance (fonts, colours, exact layout, headers/footers) is not. It is a content converter, not a layout copier.

What is the difference between HWP and HWPX?

HWP is the older binary format of the Hangul word processor; HWPX is the newer ZIP/XML-based standard. Both can be read here; when saving to Hangul, the tool writes HWPX.
