FAQ
Why does your word count differ from Microsoft Word or another site?
Every tool draws the line differently — hyphenated words, numbers, contractions. We split on whitespace, which matches most online counters, and switch to Intl.Segmenter for Chinese, Japanese and Korean, where there are no spaces to split on. Hover any statistic to see exactly how it was counted.
How is reading time calculated?
Words ÷ 238 words per minute, the median adult silent reading speed. Speaking time uses 150 wpm. Both numbers are shown on the page and you can change them — a technical text or a slow presenter is nowhere near those defaults.
Is my text saved anywhere?
Only in this browser. We keep it in localStorage so a reload does not lose your draft, and "Clear" wipes it. There is no account, no cloud sync and no upload.
