Discord's upload limits in 2026
- Free accounts: 20 MB per file since 13 August 2026, up from 10 MB. Mobile apps now check the size before compressing, so the same 20 MB applies.
- Nitro Basic: 50 MB.
- Nitro: 500 MB.
The presets aim slightly below each limit (19.4, 48.5 and 485 MB) because Discord doesn't say whether a megabyte means 1,000,000 or 1,048,576 bytes. Many older guides and tools still say 8 MB or 10 MB; those numbers are out of date.
How long a clip fits in 20 MB
From a 1080p 60 fps source with the sound at 128 kbps, 19.4 MB gives: 30 seconds at 1080p 30 fps, one minute at 720p 30 fps, two minutes at 480p 30 fps, and five minutes at 360p 30 fps. With Automatic resolution the tool picks the highest step that still has enough bits per pixel and tells you if the target is impossible for the length.
For fast game clips where smoothness matters more than sharpness, set the frame rate to 60 and the resolution one step lower, then compare.
Why the size is checked after encoding
Browser encoders don't always keep to the requested bitrate. In tests, Chrome's variable mode overshot by 85–140% and Firefox's constant mode by about 10%. The tool uses the accurate mode for your browser, measures the finished file and re-encodes with a corrected bitrate up to twice if it is still over.
If a very busy clip still won't fit, the result shows how far over it is and offers one click to try again a resolution step lower.
Making clips look good on Discord
Discord plays H.264 MP4 inline in chat on every platform, which is what this tool produces. Cut the clip to the moment that matters under Advanced: a 20-second highlight at 1080p looks far better than a two-minute recording squeezed into the same 20 MB.
