FAQ

How many centimetres are in an inch?

Exactly 2.54 cm. The inch has been defined as 0.0254 metres since the 1959 international yard and pound agreement, so inch-to-centimetre conversions are exact, not rounded.

How do I convert feet and inches to metres?

Convert the whole height to inches first (feet × 12 + inches), then multiply by 0.0254. For example 5 ft 9 in = 69 in = 1.7526 m.

What is a nautical mile?

A nautical mile is exactly 1,852 metres — roughly one minute of latitude. It is used in aviation and at sea, and it is about 15% longer than a statute mile (1,609.344 m).
