BMI Calculator
Calculate BMI in metric or imperial units, see your WHO category on a visual scale, the healthy weight range for your height, and Asian-Pacific thresholds.

Enter your height and weight to see your BMI.
BMI is a population screening measure, not a diagnosis. It does not distinguish muscle from fat and is unreliable for athletes, pregnant people, children and the very elderly. Talk to a clinician about your own numbers.
For anyone under 20, BMI must be read against CDC/WHO age-and-sex percentiles, not these fixed bands.
How to use
- Choose Metric or Imperial units — the fields switch to cm/kg or feet, inches and pounds.
- Enter your height and weight; ‘Try an example’ fills sample values in the units on screen.
- Set Standard to ‘WHO international’, or ‘WHO Asian-Pacific’ for the lower 23.0 and 25.0 bands.
- Read your BMI, its category on the scale, and the healthy weight range for your height.
- Copy any result card, or use Share link to reopen the same height and weight later.
FAQ
What is a healthy BMI?
Under the WHO international classification a BMI from 18.5 up to 25.0 is the normal range. This tool also converts that range into a weight range in kg and lb for your exact height, so you can see the actual numbers rather than an abstract score.
Why are the Asian-Pacific BMI thresholds different?
Health risks such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease rise at a lower BMI in many South, South-East and East Asian populations, so the WHO Asian-Pacific guidance treats 23.0 and above as overweight and 25.0 and above as obese. Switch the standard selector to use those bands.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
No. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, so it overestimates body fat in muscular people and underestimates it in people with low muscle mass. It is not valid for children and teenagers, who need age-and-sex percentile charts, and it is not a diagnosis for anyone.
