FAQ

How do I calculate ROI?

ROI = (amount returned − amount invested) ÷ amount invested × 100. Turning $10,000 into $15,000 is a 50% ROI, or a $5,000 net gain.

What is annualized ROI and why is it lower than ROI?

Annualized ROI (CAGR) spreads the total return over the holding period: (returned ÷ invested)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. A 50% total return over 3 years is only 14.47% a year, because each year’s gain compounds on the last.

Should fees be included?

Yes, if you want the return you actually kept. Fees are added to the cost side: (15,000 − 10,000 − 500) ÷ (10,000 + 500) × 100 = 42.86% instead of 50%.
