FAQ

Where do these exchange rates come from?

They are the European Central Bank reference rates, served through the free Frankfurter API. The ECB publishes them once per working day at around 16:00 CET, so the rate shown is from the most recent working day and its date is always displayed above the result.

Why is my bank’s rate different?

This is the mid-market rate, the midpoint between the buy and sell prices in the wholesale market. Banks, card networks and money-transfer services add a margin on top and may charge a fee, so the rate you are actually charged will be less favourable.

Does this converter work offline?

Partly. The last set of rates successfully downloaded is saved in your browser, so if you return without a connection the converter still works and clearly marks the rates as cached, with the date they were published.
